Social Interpersonal

Under this domain, the area of focus is on replacing maladaptive social and interpersonal skills. Replacement behaviors include skills that are necessary to establish and maintain positive relationships.

Social skills training includes communication, positive and appropriate relationships and replacing maladaptive behaviors with socially acceptable behaviors. Interpersonal skills training includes self help skills, grooming and hygiene, daily living skills and to communicate wants and needs. Group activities will be encouraged for building social skills. Individuals will be offered opportunities for social interaction with their peers on a daily basis and with individuals in the community as health and safety allow.

Individuals will be assessed through observation, interaction, past history and experience regarding their method of communication. Supports, such as picture / visual communication and basic sign language will be implemented to facilitate communication based on their assessment. Assistance and training on the use of augmentative and assistive communication techniques will be offered to increase effective communication.

Under this domain, the area of focus is education and making healthy choices.
